TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF
Sirach 18:18-20 (not in Protestant Bible)
Before you speak, learn,
And before you get sick, take care of your health.
Before you make a judgment, examine yourself closely,
And in the hour of visitation you will find atonement.
Before you become sick, humble yourself;
And at the time of sinning, prove your conversion.
Personal Challenge
We are all given only one body, one mind, one heart, and one temporal life to live with these gifts. Sirach reminds us to take care of ourselves while we are able to. For our mind and how we relate to others, learn before we speak. For our bodies, take care of our health and practice humility before we get sick. For the execution of judgment with our hearts and minds, examine ourselves closely before we judge another. And finally, when we sin, prove our conversion to being a child of God by confessing our sins and seeking God’s redemption. Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, the sinner!
