SILENCE IS GOLDEN

Sirach 20:5-7 (not in Protestant Bible)
There is a man who is silent but is found to be wise,
And there is a man who is hateful because he talks too much.
There is a man who is silent because he has no answer,
And there is a man who is silent because he knows when to speak.
A wise man will keep silent until it is the right time to speak,
But an arrogant and undiscerning man will speak out of turn.
Personal Challenge
So often we will speak before we think. This is always dangerous to our relationships with others. We see several truisms here in relationship to silence. Those who choose to be silent are often found to be wise. If we talk too much our inner thoughts and beliefs will be revealed and expose our hatefulness. It is indeed wise to be silent when we do not have a truthful answer. Knowing
when to speak helps us to know when to remain silent. It is arrogant to speak out of turn. Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
