DISCERNMENT

Proverbs 11:10 LXX (11:9)

A man in need of discernment treats citizens with contempt,
But a man of discernment keeps quiet.

Personal Challenge

DISCERNMENTnoun

  • The act or process of exhibiting keen insight and good judgment.
  • Keenness of insight and judgment.
  • The power or faculty of the mind by which it distinguishes one thing from another; power of viewing differences in objects, and their relations and tendencies; penetrative and discriminate mental vision; acuteness; sagacity; insight.

This definition of discernment is from the American Heritage Dictionary. Sometimes, in our modern, disconnected society, it is helpful to get us all on the same page. This verse is so appropriate for the issues that we are facing today. We are seeing throughout all levels of leadership (corporate, political, even religious), the absence of discernment. Is it any wonder that citizens (and foreigners) are being treated with contempt. Think about this when you are privileged to vote in November! Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy! Lord, have mercy!
